A custom desktop application for controlling molecular biology robotic testing devices.
The Problem
AI Biosciences, Inc develops a number of machines for molecular biology automation. Since they are primarily based on 3D printer control boards, they had been using 3D printer software such as Repetier-Host to control the machines. Since the software was not optimized for their application, it was cumbersome to use and prone to human error. Technicians had to directly write g-code programs using machine coordinates to drive the machines.
The Solution
AI Biosciences Inc wanted to make the process of controlling their molecular biology robotic testing devices easier and safer for technicians. To accomplish this, they decided to create a custom desktop application specifically designed for this purpose. The application was developed using Eclipse RCP, allowing for faster development of its user interface. This enabled the team to focus their efforts on the core challenge of integrating the hardware with the software.
The resulting application solved the problem of cumbersome manual control, allowing technicians to control the machines with minimal risk of human error.
